Certified FRP Tank & Piping Design Specialist (CFTPDS)
The Certified FRP Tank & Piping Design Specialist (CFTPDS) is a comprehensive 40-hour, 5-day professional course designed to develop practical knowledge and engineering skills for the design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and application of FRP tanks and piping systems. The programme is suitable for design, process, mechanical and project engineers, composite manufacturers, tank fabricators, EPC professionals, consultants and QA/QC engineers.
The course begins with the fundamentals of composite materials and mechanics, covering glass and carbon fibers, resin systems, stress-strain behaviour, orthotropic properties, laminate theory and safety factors. Participants are also introduced to major FRP manufacturing processes such as filament winding, continuous winding, contact molding, pultrusion and RTM, together with applications including chemical storage tanks, water tanks, scrubbers, pressure vessels and industrial piping.
The FRP Tank Design section covers important design standards including ASME RTP-1, ASTM D3299, ASTM D4097 and AWWA D120. Participants study hydrostatic, wind, seismic and vacuum loading, followed by shell, bottom and roof design and nozzle reinforcement. A worked example of a 50 m³ chemical tank provides practical exposure to thickness calculations and material selection.
The FRP Pipe Design section addresses ISO 14692, ASTM D2992, ASME NM.2 and ASME B31 integration, along with hoop, axial and combined stresses, thermal expansion, anchors, guides, supports and pipe routing concepts.
The final modules cover fabrication, QA/QC, inspection, testing, NDT, CAD, FEM, laminate design tools, failure analysis and industry case studies, including acid storage tanks, FGD piping, seawater systems and hydrogen applications. The programme concludes with a final examination and certification.
