    Guruvayur Ekadasi

The grand festival of Guruvayur Ekadasi is scheduled to take place on November 21, 2026, at the iconic Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple in the Thrissur district of Kerala. Falling on the auspicious Vrishchika Ekadasi during the lunar fortnight, this major event attracts hundreds of thousands of Krishna devotees. The festival marks continuous Udayasthamana Poojas (dawn-to-dusk rituals) alongside an eleven-day Carnatic music festival held in honor of legendary musician Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar. A unique tradition of the festival includes a solemn elephant memorial service for the famed temple elephant, Gajarajan Kesavan, where the current head of the elephant family places a wreath at his statue. The celebrations culminate on Geethopadesam Day with an illuminated late-night "Vilakku Ekadasi" procession of caparisoned elephants, creating a magnificent visual spectacle beneath thousands of traditional oil lamps.
