Ibaadat: Songs of the Sacred is a musical offering by singer and composer Sonam Kalra, presented by the Kolkata Centre for Creativity as part of its 2026 programme. The performance brings Sufi, Bhakti and Gospel traditions together in a single musical conversation.
Drawing from sacred texts, poetry and different musical lineages, the performance explores ideas of devotion and divine unity that are shared across cultures and traditions. Rather than presenting the traditions separately, Ibaadat allows prayer, poetry and melody to move between them while retaining the distinct character of each form.
The performance creates a reflective musical space where different approaches to the sacred can meet and communicate beyond linguistic and cultural boundaries.
Sonam Kalra is known for bringing diverse musical and spiritual traditions together through projects including The Sufi Gospel. She has performed internationally and her work also engages with themes of inclusion, equality, education and social justice.
