    Little Language Film Festival

The Little Language Film Festival – Films That Keep Languages Alive is a two-day film festival presented by Bangalore International Centre (BIC) on 10 and 11 October 2026 in Bengaluru.

The festival explores the importance of preserving India's linguistic diversity through cinema. Languages carry the songs, stories, myths, poetry and lived experiences of their communities, yet many lesser-spoken languages face increasing pressure from globalisation and the dominance of economically powerful languages. The festival brings these voices to the screen, offering audiences a chance to experience their stories and cultural perspectives.

    Programme highlights:

    • 10 October: Sikaisal / If Only Trees Could Talk, a Tiwa-language film about a teacher striving to educate children in a remote Assamese village, followed by Kherwal, a Santali-language drama exploring cultural traditions, family and loss.

11 October: A panel discussion on endangered languages, followed by Ber / The Root, a Kodava-language film exploring family relationships and cultural preservation, and Whispers of the Mountains, a Rajasthani-language drama examining mining, ecological conservation and community livelihoods.

The screenings include English subtitles, with audience Q&A sessions following selected films. Filmmakers, writers and practitioners will also discuss the importance of documenting and sustaining endangered languages.

The festival offers film enthusiasts, students, language researchers and culture lovers an opportunity to discover regional cinema while reflecting on the relationship between language, identity, heritage and community memory. The event concludes on 11 October 2026 at 7:00 PM.
