Marcia is a Marathi theatrical production that examines mental health, emotional strain and the challenges faced by individuals and families in contemporary society.
The story follows a husband who leaves a high-paying IT job and remains at home, while his wife works tirelessly at a Montessori school to support their household. The husband struggles with anger, anxiety and psychological distress, while the increasing burden of responsibility gradually leaves his wife emotionally exhausted.
As the play unfolds, their roles shift: the husband begins caring for his wife as she experiences severe mental illness. This reversal raises questions about the pressures that lead to emotional breakdown, the unequal distribution of responsibilities and the support people need during difficult periods.
Written by Mayur Sarkale, directed by Mangesh Satpute and presented by Santosh Manjrekar, the production confronts the stigma surrounding mental health and asks why society often overlooks psychological suffering until it reaches a crisis.
