    Mechanics of Composites 16 Nov 2026 - 28 Nov 2026

The Mechanics of Composite Materials course provides a structured understanding of how composite materials behave under different mechanical loading conditions and how their properties can be used effectively in engineering design. The course introduces the fundamental principles required to understand the relationship between fibers, matrix, interfaces, material orientation, and overall composite performance.

Participants will learn the basic mechanics of fiber-reinforced polymer composites, including stress, strain, stiffness, strength, elastic behaviour, and load transfer between the reinforcing fibers and polymer matrix. The course explains how the direction, volume fraction, type, and arrangement of fibers influence the mechanical performance of a composite component.

A major part of the course focuses on lamina and laminate behaviour, including longitudinal and transverse properties, anisotropy, material coordinate systems, and the effect of fiber orientation. Participants are introduced to the principles of Classical Lamination Theory (CLT) and its application in evaluating stresses, strains, stiffness, and deformation in laminated composite structures.

The course also covers important aspects of composite failure, including common failure modes, strength criteria, damage mechanisms, and factors affecting structural integrity. Practical examples are used to connect theoretical concepts with applications in automotive, aerospace, infrastructure, renewable energy, transportation, pressure vessels, and industrial composite components.

The course is designed to help engineers, designers, production professionals, researchers, and students develop a strong technical foundation for analysis, material selection, component design, and troubleshooting of composite structures.
