    Panachikkadu Festival
    • The annual Panachikkadu Festival is scheduled to take place during the auspicious Navaratri period from October 11 to October 21, 2026, at the thousand-year-old Panachikkadu Saraswati Temple in Kottayam, Kerala. Affectionately revered across South India as the "Dakshina Mookambika," this ancient shrine uniquely lacks a rigid formal structure; instead, the idol of Goddess Saraswati rests on an open-air stone platform enveloped by lush green creepers and a natural rivulet. The festival draws thousands of families from across the country for the grand Vidyarambham ceremony on Vijayadashami day, where children are initiated into writing their first letters. Alongside deeply spiritual rituals—such as the distribution of intelligence-enhancing mantra-infused ghee—the festival venue serves as a major hub for classical musical concerts, literary recitations, and cultural art forms.
