Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – Eugene Onegin is an opera screening from the Metropolitan Opera, presented as part of the NCPA’s The Met: Live in HD series. Based on Alexander Pushkin’s celebrated verse novel, the opera explores love, pride, emotional restraint and the consequences of missed opportunities.
The story follows Tatiana, a young woman who falls deeply in love with the sophisticated and aloof Eugene Onegin. When she expresses her feelings, Onegin rejects her. His indifference and pride set in motion a series of events that lead to heartbreak, tragedy and eventual regret, as he comes to recognise his affection for Tatiana too late.
