Raghunath is a theatre production by Abhimukh, Nagaon, Assam, presented by Kolkata Centre for Creativity at AMI Arts Festival 2026.
Set in a flood-prone village in Assam, the play follows Raghunath, a father whose daughter loses her life because the village has no bridge to help her reach school safely. After experiencing a loss that could have been prevented, he looks for a way to draw attention to his community's neglected needs.
His unusual plan involves spreading a rumour that an ancient sacred idol has been discovered in his home. He hopes that the possibility of a temple will attract authorities to the village and create an opportunity for a bridge, school and other basic infrastructure.
The production moves between personal grief and the larger realities of an underserved community, exploring faith, governance, morality and the lengths an individual may go to when ordinary appeals for change fail.
Raghunath won six awards at META 2024, including Best Production, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Script, Best Light Design and Best Stage Design.
